F1: McLaren teamcast talks up Hamilton’s prospects
Now, we know it won’t exactly set the world of Formula One on fire to learn that Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen are the best of friends going into the 2008 season. Or that the team believes Hamilton can handle the pressure of competing at the very top of the sport. But, nevertheless, McLaren’s official teamcast, issued on the eve of the Australian Grand Prix, does make for interesting viewing for anyone interested in the prospects of these two drivers. Just don’t expect any hot news on Ron’s retirement.

So, the Ron Dennis rumours have finally hardened up enough that the BBC feels it’s safe to report them. The story comes in the form of a long profile which is a pretty interesting read, as well as setting out his different roles within McLaren and what he’s actually likely to be resigning from. It’s just a shame it reads so much like an obituary.

Lewis Hamilton might only be 22 – but he’s already packed in enough incident to fill a volume of autobiography. The book, entitled ‘My Story’ is due to be published on November 5.

F1: McLaren appeal date set, Stewart not optimistic about their chances
McLaren’s appeal against a decision not to punish the three drivers who finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton at Interlagos and were later found to have fuel temperature irregularities is due to be heard on November 15. However FIA president Max Mosley has already effectively stated that the appeal will fail.

Lewis Hamilton might not be F1 world champion this year, but at least there’s a consolation prize on offer – in the form of a (literal) gold star from the British Racing Drivers’ Club. The boy wonder has been awarded the BRDC’s 2007 Gold Star award, handed over for his outstanding contribution to motorsport.
