BRDC Young Driver Award 2008: the shortlist

It’s that time of year again – the point at which six young British hopefuls get shortlisted for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.

The contenders named so far include Formula Renault UK champion Adam Christodoulou, runner-up Alexander Sims and fourth-placed Dean Stoneman. Also on the list are Formula Palmer Audi champion Jason Moore and British Formula Ford championship leader Wayne Boyd.

The sixth finalist is due to be decided in a Formula Palmer Audi shoot-out event taking place at Snetterton on the first weekend in November. An entry list is not currently available, but you can learn more here.

So, what do the candidates face? Their driving skills in a single-seater, a DTM car, and an Aston Martin N24 will all be evaluated over two days of testing at Snetterton later in November.

They will then be interviewed at the McLaren Technology Centre by former award winner and F1 driver Anthony Davidson, Steve Hallam, McLaren’s Head of Operations, the BTCC and GT racer Darren Turner, veteran commentator Ian Titchmarsh and Autosport’s Marcus Pye and Kevin Turner.

The winner will be announced at the Autosport Awards on December 7 and will get the chance to test with McLaren F1 plus £50,000, an Aston Martin GT1 test, plus a season’s worth of Puma racewear.
