A1GP comes to Silverstone for free pre-season test

,

The A1GP series is kicking off its pre-season testing with a stint at Silverstone – and spectators are invited to come along and watch free of charge.

It is the first time that the public has had the opportunity to view the official A1GP session at the Northamptonshire track. The season itself starts in the Netherlands on September 30.

The test session is due to take place on Tuesday August 28 and Wednesday August 29 with all 22 teams set to take part, many taking the opportunity to give new drivers a spell in the cockpit and to show off new liveries.

On Tuesday session one runs from 9am to 12.30pm and session two from 2.30pm to 5pm with the paddock open from 4.30pm onwards.

On Wednesday the paddock opens at 9am. Session three runs from 9am to 12.30pm and session four from 2.30m to 5pm.

Organisers say that parking is free and covered grandstand seating will also be available at no extra charge.

Fans will also have the chance to get up close and personal with the teams and drivers as paddock access is part of the day. A tyre-change challenge has also been set up for both days.

Pete da Silva, CEO of A1GP, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome members of the public to the test session, reinforcing the fact that A1GP is the most accessible motorsport series around.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever done this so it will be a great way for people to experience the thrill of A1GP, especially as entrance is free.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a great day out for our visitors.”
