Silverstone revamp plan hits hold-up

Plans for a £25 million redevelopment at the Silverstone circuit are going to have to undergo further scrutiny after councillors decided that residents hadn’t had enough say on them.

Two hotels, a business park, a university campus and housing are all set to be built at the Northamptonshire venue, at the same time as its manufacturers’ test centre, pit and paddock facilities are approved.

South Northamptonshire District Council is one of the planning authorities that has to agree that the scheme is acceptable. The other is Aylesbury Vale District Council, which has already approved it in principle.

It had recently given the redevelopment its endorsement - but has decided that residents’ views have not been sufficiently taken into account.

So the plans are now going back to a council committee for a second look.
