“It was late last night when Hill’s own Piper Aztec smashed into a screen of trees and burst into flames. The plane burned out in minutes. But from the start there was little doubt that Britain had lost one of its greatest racing personalities.”

If you missed the hour-long documentary about Graham Hill, broadcast on BBC4 in the small hours of this morning, you’ve still got a few days to see it, courtesy of that handy little device the iPlayer.

But get along quick…

    Dear Mr Hill,
We are contacting you from the Hillingdon Women’s Centre in Hillingdon, Middlesex. We are a registered charity and every year we have a stall/tombola at the Hayes Carnival in order to raise funds for our centre. We are contacting as many famous people to see if they would be willing to to supply us with a signed photograph for us to auction for our cause. We have invited the local press along, and of course we would mention to them about any help that you were able to give us, no matter how small.

    Thanking you in advance.

    Yours sincerely

Um, you do know that Graham Hill died in 1975, don’t you?

If it’s his son Damon you’re wanting, your best bet is to contact him via the British Racing Drivers’ Club (http://www.brdc.co.uk/).

    Good luck with the stall.
