F1: ‘It’s a big thank you to everyone’ says Jense

It’s not actually a video, even though it was on Brawn GP’s YouTube channel – but here is Jenson Button’s Australian Grand Prix audio diary with his thoughts about a remarkable weekend in Melbourne.

He talks about early challenges – low temperatures, quick rivals and the need not to give too much away about the speed of the car – and the success of seizing the front row of the grid.

“I put it on pole, which is a great feeling – my fourth pole position of my F1 career – so Saturday night was great. It was strange because obviously you’ve got to concentrate on the Sunday, because that’s the race, but we wanted to enjoy the moment after what we’d all been through.”

Sunday saw time for a coffee on the beach “with the gang”, and then it was race time: “It was just about getting it home. We were on the soft tyre, I knew we had enough pace, I just had to make sure we didn’t grain the tyre – but we didn’t. And we won!”
