Champ car: Season now down to just 14 races

,

A quick scheduling heads-up for Champ Car fans: for the second time this season the series has been forced to cancel a race, this time due to lack of sponsor support.

The final race was due to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on December 2 on a street circuit. That honour now goes to Mexico City on November 11.

A race due to be held in China had already been cancelled.

The major effect of this is that those drivers, including Britain’s Justin Wilson, who are trying to deprive Sebastien Bourdais of his fourth title now have less scope in which to complete that feat.

Bourdais leads the drivers’ field prior to the Assen race with 283 points while The Netherlands’ Robert Doornbos is on 230 points.

Third in the standings is Australian Will Power on 221 points while Wilson is fourth on 211 points.
