F1: Todt follows Brawn out of the door at Ferrari

This morning we wrote the following:

Brawn began talks with Ferrari in the summer but he was unable to agree a deal to become their team principal. Internal team politics which have recently seen the ascendancy of Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo at the expense of current team principal Jean Todt, a traditional ally of Brawn’s, may possibly be at work here.

This afternoon we read that the di Montezemolo victory is complete and that Jean Todt has been purged.

Yep, just as we thought…

Oh yes. In other news, Ross Brawn has been confirmed at Honda.

And we feel in our water that this makes Alonso’s eventual residence in the Ferrari garage more rather than less likely since di Montezemolo is said to be a great fan, and got his way so definitively over the matter of recruiting Raikkonen.

I’m not sure Todt has actually “followed Brawn out the door” as you put it – the quoted article suggests he will remain at Ferrari albeit in a different role.

Fair enough, Craig – he’s been kicked upstairs. But for all intents and purposes he’s off the active racing detail, so I don’t think it’s too much of a liberty.
