It was veterans’ day at the Circuit de Catalunya in the last testing session before the Australian Grand Prix, as Jarno Trulli forced a surprise burst of speed out of his Toyota to top the standings. And David Coulthard, back in action after having to give up his seat to young pretender Sebastian Vettel for a day thanks to a trapped nerve in his neck, ran him a close second.

Lewis Hamilton’s struck a confident note at the end of the latest Barcelona testing session, saying he feels good about his 2008 car and ready for the start of the new season. In an interview for his team’s website, he tells how he’s adapting to driving without traction control, what advantages the latest McLaren has over the 2007 model and which circuits are his favourite to drive.

Lewis Hamilton may find that his second year in F1 is a lot tougher than his first, according to veteran racer Sir Jackie Stewart. He predicts that Lewis may find that fierce expectations, a talented team-mate and a potentially under-performing car could all scupper his hopes of a title once more.

27 Feb 2008: GP2: Conway joins Honda’s young driver programme

It’s official – Mike Conway’s got a testing role with Honda, according to the team, which confirmed his selection earlier this month. The new Trident Racing signing will be complete a GP2 season for that team – but will also contribute to a set number of days with Honda assigned by the FIA for evaluating new drivers while developing its new car.

Lewis Hamilton will have a smile on his face in the run-in to the season-opening race in Melbourne, if the latest Barcelona test times are anything to go by. McLaren managed a one-two on a day when the team’s minds were on the forthcoming Australian Grand Prix, and most of the race drivers put in race distances on the testing circuit.

26 Feb 2008: F1: Coulthard injures neck in Barcelona test

David Coulthard has been forced to pull out of his Red Bull team’s latest Barcelona test session after injuring his neck on the first day. His stats were noticeably down after yesterday’s session when he was the slowest driver on the track, putting in a mere 25 laps.
