McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen are due to celebrate 100 years of Mercedes racing heritage at the French Grand Prix with demonstration laps in a 1908 race car.

According to Formula1.com, in 1908, Christian Lautenschlager won the French Grand Prix in a four-cylinder 12.8-litre car which produced 135bhp. To mark this event, the historic Benz Grand Prix car will be getting an outing this weekend. Read the full story here.

The manufacturer is celebrating wins in France by drivers including Juan Manuel Fangio and David Coulthard. Can either of the current pair repeat the feat, Kovalainen’s recent performance woes and Hamilton’s 10-place grid penalty notwithstanding?

Guess we’ll just have to wait until the weekend to find out…
